Black Friday Is Now 'Black November': Why You Don't Need to Rush

Black Friday 2026

No need to rush

The sales now last weeks, not hours. Here is why that is good news for careful shoppers.

Countdown clocks, 'today only' banners and flashing percentages are designed to make you feel you will miss out. The evidence says you rarely will.

The sales have stretched out

Black Friday used to mean one frantic day. Now many retailers start their offers in early November, and sometimes in late October, as MoneySavingExpert has noted. Spreading offers out also helps retailers manage stock and deliveries before Christmas.

Card data backs this up. Barclays reported that UK card spending fell 1.1% year on year in November 2025, the sharpest drop since early 2021, as many households held back and spread out their festive shopping.

What price tracking shows

Which? tracked the prices of products in the Black Friday sales for a full year, from May 2024 to May 2025. It found that eight in 10 products on offer over the Black Friday period were not at their best price, and could be bought for the same or less at other times of the year. Its advice is simple: do not feel rushed, and only buy if the price is genuinely good for you.

Urgency is a sales tactic. Patience is a saving.

How to shop at your own pace

  • Write a list now. Bed sizes, mattress depths, colours, and the pieces that actually need replacing.
  • Record today's prices. A screenshot or a note on your phone is enough to judge a 'deal' later.
  • Set a budget. Decide what you will spend before the emails start.
  • Ignore countdown pressure. If a timer is the only reason to buy, it is not a reason.
  • Check the returns policy. A generous returns window takes the risk out of buying early.

Our view

Good bedding is something you use every single night. The best time to buy it is when you need it and the price is fair, whether that is Black Friday or a quiet Tuesday in March.

Are Black Friday prices the lowest of the year?

Often not. Which? found most products it tracked were the same price or cheaper at other times of the year.
