Buying guide
A good deal is good bedding
Black Friday is on 27 November 2026. Here is how to tell a genuine bargain from a big number on a label.
Every November, bedding is plastered with huge percentages. Some are real bargains. Many are not. And the deal only matters if the sheets are still lovely to sleep in a year from now.

27 Nov
is Black Friday 2026. Start your research now, not on the day.
That finding comes from Which?, which advises shoppers not to feel rushed, to keep a wish list and to track prices before the sales. With bedding, there is a second test too: is it actually good quality?
In short
- Track the price you want to pay before Black Friday, so you know a real deal when you see one.
- Check the fibre content, weave and certification, not just the thread count.
- Check the size and pocket depth fit your mattress.
- Check the returns policy before you buy.
Five signs of quality bedding
Clear fibre content
Look for an exact composition, such as 100% long-staple cotton or 65% bamboo and 35% cotton. Vague terms like 'cotton-rich' or 'cotton feel' often hide a polyester blend.
A named weave
Sateen is smooth with a soft sheen; percale is crisp and matte. If a listing does not say, ask.
A sensible thread count
Higher is not always better. Read our no-nonsense guide to thread count before you compare numbers.
Independent certification
OEKO-TEX Standard 100 means the fabric has been tested for harmful substances. Look for the label, not just the claim.
The details
Deep pockets with wide elastic, neat seams, and closures that sit flat, such as hidden buttons on a duvet cover.
The best deal is the bedding you still love next November.
Red flags in the sales
A huge discount on a price it never sold at
Which? found most deals are matched or beaten at other times. Track the price beforehand.
Thread counts in the thousands
Very high numbers often rely on multi-ply yarns. They can feel heavy and wear poorly.
Unclear sizing
No measurements, or no pocket depth, means you risk a sheet that will not fit.
Tight return windows
Make sure you can return or exchange it if it does not suit you.

Make a list now: the sizes, colours and pieces you actually need, and what you would happily pay. On the day, buy only what is on the list.
