The Best Striped Bedding Ideas for a Classic British Bedroom
Two stripes. One classic British bedroom.
We're not going to pretend we sell six kinds of stripe. We sell two Harmony and Serene and both are good enough to build a whole room around. Here's how.
Two, done properly, beats six done thin.
Every stripe in our range came from the same place: our own customers telling us which colours they kept coming back to. That's how we ended up with just two Harmony Stripe, woven into our bamboo, and Serene Stripe, woven into our cotton rather than a rack of near-identical patterns nobody asked for.
The upside of a small range is that both stripes are considered, not filler — each one built to do a lot of styling on its own.
"A good stripe behaves like a good tailor it's precise, it's quiet, and it makes everything around it look better."
Build the bed the way you'd build an outfit.
Whichever stripe you pick, layer it in this order and it stays looking pulled together rather than accidental.
A plain flat sheet, or one in the same stripe a shade paler underneath it's mostly hidden, so save the boldest fabric for where it'll be seen.
This is where Harmony or Serene earns its keep the largest visible surface in the room, and the one piece that does the most styling for the least effort.
Two plain European squares at the back, your striped pillowcase pair at the front. Never more than one pattern on a bed unless you're mixing Harmony and Serene deliberately.
Finish in a plain, heavier fabric folded a third of the way up the bed it grounds the stripe and gives the eye somewhere plain to land.
Two rooms, two stripes, no guesswork.
If you already know your wall colour, start here.
Panelled & pale → Serene Stripe
Soft grey-blue walls, white woodwork. Serene's navy-on-cotton ground is the closest thing we make to a classic ticking stripe let the walls do the quiet work behind it.
Warm & cosy → Harmony Stripe
Warm plaster or terracotta walls. Harmony's carmine and apricot tones feel like an extension of the room, not an addition to it.
Start with the duvet cover the rest follows.
Both stripes are cut from the same breathable bamboo or cotton cloth as the rest of the Sheet Story range. Free UK delivery over £80, free 90-day returns.
